Rajasthan Grand Heritage Trail

Depart Delhi early morning and drive through the scenic Shekhawati region to reach Mandawa by afternoon. Upon arrival, check in to your heritage haveli hotel and freshen up. Begin your walking tour of this open-air gallery town — explore the ornately frescoed Poddar and Goenka Havelis, stroll through the old Sonthaliya Gate bazaar, and admire centuries-old murals painted across every wall. Enjoy a traditional Rajasthani dinner in the haveli courtyard under a sky full of stars. Overnight in Mandawa.

After breakfast, check out and drive southwest toward Bikaner. En route, stop at the fascinating Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok (30 km before Bikaner) — a unique shrine where thousands of rats are considered sacred and freely roam the temple premises; spotting a white rat is considered especially auspicious. Continue to Bikaner and check in. Visit the magnificent Junagarh Fort — one of Rajasthan's few unconquered forts, famous for its mirrored Anup Mahal, jewelled howdahs, and royal arms museum. Later, stroll through the grand Lallgarh Palace gardens and visit the National Camel Breeding Farm — the largest in Asia. In the evening, pick up Bikaner's legendary bhujia and rasgulla from the local market. Overnight in Bikaner.

After breakfast, embark on one of India's most dramatic desert drives as the Thar Sand dunes close in on either side of the highway. Arrive Jaisalmer by afternoon and check in. Visit the golden sandstone Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila) — a living fort where 3,000 residents still reside — and the intricately carved Patwon ki Haveli and Salim Singh ki Haveli. As the sun sets, head to Gadsisar Lake, where Brahmin ducks glide across calm waters and the sandstone ghats glow amber. Overnight in Jaisalmer.

After breakfast, spend the morning exploring the ancient Jain Temples inside the fort and the Desert Cultural Centre museum. By afternoon, transfer to Sam Sand Dunes — the heart of the Thar Desert. Mount a camel and ride into the golden dunes for a breathtaking sunset over the desert horizon. Return to your luxury tented camp for a magical evening of Rajasthani folk music, puppet dance, and a traditional dinner under a sky blazing with stars. Overnight at Sam Desert Camp.

Wake to a glorious desert sunrise, then after breakfast drive northeast to the Blue City of Jodhpur. On arrival, visit the towering Mehrangarh Fort — perched 400 feet above the city on a volcanic cliff — with its spectacular Sheesh Mahal, royal cradle room, and sweeping panoramic views of the blue-painted old city below. Then visit the serene white marble Jaswant Thada cenotaph by the lake. In the evening, explore the bustling Ghanta Ghar Clock Tower and Sardar Market — Rajasthan's finest bazaar for spices, tie-dye fabrics, and silver jewellery. Don't miss the local mawa kachori. Overnight in Jodhpur.

After breakfast, drive south through the Aravalli foothills as the landscape transforms from desert to cool, forested hills. Check in to your hotel at Abu Road — the base town for Mount Abu. In the evening, wind 28 km up the scenic ghat road to Rajasthan's only hill station. Stroll along the picturesque Nakki Lake — the only natural lake in Rajasthan — and enjoy the brilliant Aravalli sunset from the famous Sunset Point. Return to Abu Road for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive up to Mount Abu for a full day of exploration. Visit the awe-inspiring Dilwara Jain Temples (open 11 AM onwards) — renowned worldwide for their breathtaking white marble ceilings carved so delicately they resemble lacework; photography is not permitted inside, so take your time to simply absorb the artistry. Continue to Guru Shikhar, the highest peak of the Aravallis at 1,722 m, for a sweeping view across Rajasthan and Gujarat. Later, relax at Trevor's Tank, a peaceful British-era reservoir and bird sanctuary. Return to Abu Road for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, check out and drive northeast through the Aravalli hills toward the City of Lakes. Arrive Udaipur by early afternoon and check in to your hotel. Head straight to the magnificent City Palace complex — the largest palace in Rajasthan — with its stunning mirror-work chambers, intricate miniature painting galleries, and sweeping views of Lake Pichola. As evening falls, take a scenic boat ride across the lake to the beautiful Jag Mandir island palace. Return to the lakeside for a leisurely dinner with the illuminated City Palace reflecting on the water. Overnight in Udaipur.

After breakfast, spend a full day exploring the City of Lakes. Visit the magnificent City Palace — the largest palace complex in Rajasthan — with its stunning mirror-work chambers and miniature painting galleries. Take a scenic boat ride across Lake Pichola to the beautiful Jag Mandir island palace, which is said to have inspired Shah Jahan's design for the Taj Mahal. In the afternoon, visit the ornamental Saheliyon ki Bari garden and stroll along the breezy Fateh Sagar Lake promenade. In the evening, attend the colourful folk dance and puppet show at the lakeside Bagore ki Haveli. Overnight in Udaipur.

After breakfast, check out and drive north with a powerful en-route stop at the legendary Chittorgarh Fort — a UNESCO World Heritage Site spread over 700 acres atop a great stone mesa. Explore the soaring Vijay Stambha (Tower of Victory), the poignant Rani Padmini Palace by its lotus pond, the historic Kirti Stambha, and the Meera Mandir where saint-poetess Mirabai once worshipped. Allow 3 hours here. Continue north to the sacred town of Pushkar, arriving by evening. Check in, freshen up, and head to the holy Pushkar Lake ghats to witness the atmospheric sunset aarti at Brahma Ghat. Overnight in Pushkar.

After breakfast, take the ropeway up to the hilltop Savitri Temple for panoramic views of Pushkar valley. Then drive toward Jaipur with a fascinating en-route stop at the Kishangarh Marble Dumping Yard — a surreal landscape of compacted white marble slurry that looks exactly like a snow-covered moonscape. Carry a mask and sunglasses; entry is free with ID registration. Arrive Jaipur by afternoon. Check in and head up to the Nahargarh Fort ridge for a spectacular sunset view over the Pink City. Visit the magnificent Amber Fort with its glittering Sheesh Mahal, and Jaigarh Fort home to the world's largest cannon on wheels. Overnight in Jaipur.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day in India's first planned city. Visit the iconic Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) with its 953 honeycomb windows, the grand City Palace still partly home to Jaipur's royal family, and Jantar Mantar — a UNESCO-listed open-air observatory with the world's largest sundial. In the afternoon, browse the colourful bazaars of Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar for gems, textiles, and blue pottery. In the evening, experience a spectacular farewell Rajasthani dinner at Chokhi Dhani — a traditional village setting with folk dancers, puppeteers, and authentic cuisine cooked on clay stoves. Overnight in Jaipur.

After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning visit to the Albert Hall Museum and the peaceful Birla Mandir temple. Grab one last plate of kachori from Rawat Mishthan in the old city before checking out. Transfer to Delhi via NH-48 expressway, arriving by early evening.
